Metro Social Services approves ordinance draft

The Metro Social Services (MSS) Board of Commissioners, which oversees the work of the Metropolitan Homelessness Commission, was required to approve the Metro ordinance draft that would create the proposed Nashville-Davidson County Continuum of Care Homelessness Planning Council.

The MSS Board met on Monday and approved the proposed ordinance, which will be filed in Metro Council with the goal to introduce it for a first reading on June 5.

If passed, the Metropolitan Homelessness Commission would cease to exist. The new Homelessness Planning Council would serve as the CoC Governance Board independent from the MSS Board.

The Metropolitan Homelessness Commission staff would remain MSS staff members, but be newly named the Homeless Impact Division. The Homeless Impact Division will continue to serve the community in its current capacity and as part of its work support the new Homelessness Planning Council.
