MHC/CoC Workgroup Discusses Feedback from November Presentations

In November, the MHC/CoC Governance Workgroup presented its recommendation of a unified governance structure to the Metropolitan Homelessness Commission (MHC), the Continuum of Care (CoC) Governance Board and the CoC full membership meeting.

At the membership meeting, everyone was encouraged to provide immediate feedback on the recommendation. The feedback was offered in four questions:

1. What is appealing to you about the recommendations?

2. What concerns do you have?

3. What questions do you have?

4. Other comments?

At the December-1 meeting, the MHC/CoC Governance Workgroup reviewed the feedback and started answering the questions. However, they did not fully get through each question yet and decided that it is imperative to be responsive and take the time to ensure people are comfortable when being asked to make the first decision, which is to vote on the intent to establish a unified governance board.

The vote on intent is important to move forward with the work. Feedback and timelines will be discussed at the next scheduled CoC meetings.

During the December-1 meeting, the workgroup focused mainly on the composition of a new board since it was clear that there were a lot of questions and concerns around that issue. The workgroup members agreed that the feedback document shows that there is still a lot of misunderstanding in the community about the role of a combined board and continued confusion between governance and operational/management issues.

You can review the recommendation and still provide feedback by emailing judith.tackett@nashville.gov.
